We had a huge response to our mini-competition to celebrate 10 years of the Sunday Times Audible Short Story Award.
Over 1,000 entries were made to the competition, which asked for a 10-word short story that might match the famous six-word story (wrongly) attributed to Ernest Hemingway: "For sale: baby shoes, never worn."
Our winner, from a very strong field, is:
He squeezed her hand; then some more. She was silent.
Congratulations to our winner, Ray McGrath, who receives as his prize 12 free audiobooks of his choice from Audible UK, sponsor of the short story award.
We'll be back next week, with more of the story entries that particularly impressed us.
And watch out for the announcement on Sunday, July 28 of this year's shortlist for the £30,000 Sunday Times Audible Short Story Award, the world's richest prize for a single short story.
